ACTO CEO Parth Khanna’s interview with Dr. Bertalan Mesko from The Medical Futurist, on Education and Engagement in life sciences

Transcript of the interview between Parth Khanna, CEO at ACTO, and Dr. Bertalan Mesko from The Medical Futurist

Bertalan Mesko: Dear medical futurists, Canada-based education and engagement platform ACTO helps educate field reps, physicians and patients in life sciences. Its mobile learning platform is a great way for them to learn about health topics, linking these immediately with the latest research. Originally created as a sales education tool, ACTO recently bought patient education platform CoHealth and thereby entered the field of patient education, a topic that recently became more relevant than ever.

The platform uses A.I. in providing fast and reliable results, and where that might lead is what I talked about with founder and CEO Parth Khanna.

Bertalan Mesko: What is the mission and key characteristics of the company?

Parth Khanna: ACTO is helping drive better patient outcomes by changing how education is delivered to learners across the care continuum.

With our industry’s best Omnichannel Education platform, our vision is to set the gold standard for education in healthcare and life sciences.

Bertalan Mesko: ACTO is sales-oriented in a medical setting: how can you direct digital transformation at huge pharma companies like AstraZeneca and how do they change thereafter?

Parth Khanna: There are many learners across the care continuum as drugs and devices go from lab to bedside, such as sales reps, clinical research associates, medical sales liaisons (MSLs), healthcare providers (HCPs), caregivers, and even patients themselves.

To educate each type of learner, life sciences companies employ different tactics across different channels. For example, to educate sales reps, a company may employ virtual classrooms, LMS, field coaching, printed clinical papers, and live meetings. While this kitchen sink approach may let some leaders “check the box,” it often leads to a frustrating and disjointed experience for the learners.

ACTO’s Omnichannel Education platform puts learners at the centre and creates a unified, intuitive experience. Global pharma companies like AstraZeneca partner with ACTO to transform this learning journey and experience of their learners, at scale. Sales reps that use ACTO are more confident and consistent when they communicate the clinical and brand story to HCPs.

Bertalan Mesko: How do you use A.I. in your processes?

Parth Khanna: There is a whole new world of data and A.I. that is unlocked. For example, AstraZeneca engines can give highly personalized just-in-time recommendations of highly relevant learning content. Additionally, trusted and approved content can be pulled down and searched in split seconds using conversational A.I.

Bertalan Mesko: What was the drive behind the acquisition of CoHealth?

Parth Khanna: Just the way ACTO has transformed sales education for life sciences companies, we are now taking on the challenge of transforming patient education. CoHealth, a leader in patient education, was a strategic acquisition to help accelerate ACTO’s entry into patient education solutions, which is more relevant than ever before. The pandemic has increased consumer interest in health just as legacy modes of educating patients are rendered obsolete in a world of telehealth. These tools can also help in drug development – and even in the fight against misinformation.

Education plays a critical role in all facets of the care continuum – especially in clinical trials (pre-market) and HCP promotion (post-market). By disrupting education and unlocking unprecedented, powerful data insights, we are disrupting how drugs and devices are promoted and brought to market. ACTO is honored to have several of its customers lead the fight against COVID by vaccine development. ACTO is collaborating with vaccine manufacturers to build an education app for patient and HCP education to fight back against vaccine misinformation.

Bertalan Mesko: How do you disrupt how drugs and devices are promoted and brought to market? As global acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines is currently disrupted in various levels by anti-vaxxers, with your experience, if you had the chance, how would you promote vaccination?

Parth Khanna: Education plays a critical role in all facets of the care continuum – especially in clinical trials (pre-market) and HCP promotion (post-market). By disrupting education and unlocking unprecedented, powerful data insights, we are disrupting how drugs and devices are promoted and brought to market.

Bertalan Mesko: Thank you for your insights!
